Turning spaces into places
Based in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, Space2Place NYC/MA is a woman-owned [NYC WBE-certified] urban and rural planning firm that works with commercial, nonprofit, and public sector partners to realize equitable and environmentally just places.
Space2Place NYC/MA was founded by Wylie Goodman, M.R.P., a regional planner who has worked on projects related to economic development (Berkshire Regional Planning Commission), urban agriculture (Cornell University), waste resource and recovery (Queens Solid Waste Advisory Board Organizing Committee; Earth Matter NYC), creative placemaking (Partnerships for Parks), and affordable housing (Fifth Avenue Committee).
Prior to Space2Place NYC/MA, she co-led with NYC Parks/Partnerships for Parks and the Hester Street Collaborative the launch of People Make Parks, a project to help New Yorkers inform city park design. When residents’ opinions are valued, government builds better parks and the public continues to care for places they helped make.
She subsequently worked for New York City’s Department of Transportation, assisting in the wake of SuperStorm Sandy with federal and state grants from FEMA, FHA, and the NYS Governors Office of Storm Recovery.
As an independent consultant, she was awarded one of 10 national Enterprise Community Partners Collaborative Action grants written on behalf of the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council to activate vacant storefronts in Queens. She later helped project manage for the Fifth Avenue Committee, an award-winning nonprofit affordable housing developer, the completion of a 21-building gut and moderate housing renovation funded by NYC Housing and Preservation Development, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the National Equity Fund, and private lenders.
In her role as Senior Economic Planner at Berkshire Regional Planning Commission (BRPC), she helped the organization complete its five-year Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The CEDS was recognized by the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) as a Best Practice Case for Equity & Inclusion. Under the auspices of BRPC’s nonprofit, Berkshires Tomorrow, she won a National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant that will lead to the creation of a Cultural Plan for the City of Pittsfield in 2024. She is currently leading BRPC’s efforts on digital equity planning and partnerships.
